While Tarnas’ writing and scholarship are impressive, he never considers examples that don’t fit his model, only ones that do. Strange though it may seem, the data convincingly demonstrates that the entire solar system predicts and perhaps influences the trends of human history and reveals the existence of cyclical historical themes recurring archetypes that function globally.
When the rug was pulled out from under his feet, Man felt that the Universe had turned into a mechanistic, non-caring entity, thereby removing Man’s ability to effect change. Answer to philosophical problems of Western thought in Jung’s archetypes and synchronicity, or Plato’s forms as present in planetary motion.
The main exposition of the book consists of various coincidences of astrological archetypes and historical events.

But we then began to neglect our primary connection to the Universe: Most beautifully written, brought me to the point of tears as well as shakes when reading, even only pages in. Just because I don’t see astrology’s worth doesn’t mean there’s no value in it.
The crux of his argument is that inner and outer, psyche and cosmos, are inextricably intertwined, that there is a tremendous disconnect between the objectivity of modern science and the total subjectivity of psychology.

English Choose a language for shopping. This is what we individually and collectively have to want to confront before, and, in order to evolve. A thought-provoking book I’m sure I’ll refer to over and over again. Amazon Second Chance Pass it on, trade it in, give it a second life. Who needed a God when Man could use his Reason to comprehend the workings of the Universe?

Tarnas is professor of philosophy and psychology at the California Institute of Integral Studies, and is the founding director of its graduate program in Philosophy, Cosmology, and Consciousness.

This book explains it in a way that makes sense of the whys and wherefores. The author tanas a tendency to repeat himself endlessly in his support and reiteration of his thesis, but it is understandable considering how skeptical most readers will be.

I thought the middle sections were sufficiently informative, spique not repetative and overlong. AmazonGlobal Ship Orders Internationally. Not th It took me a long time to read this book because not only is it academically rigorous, but there was only so much I could absorb at a time.

All of Section One can be glossed over or skipped if you’ve finished Passion of the Western Mind particularly the Epilogue. I am currently interested in learning new things and expanding my frontiers of knowledge, and so for me this book was not terribly helpful. It wasn’t particularly interesting having read it. If you pardon me, I shall rejoice; if you reproach me, I shall endure.

Old World View versus New World View Because mankind had an ego-centric point of view about the Cosmos, the thought was that Man could influence the God s and that made life bearable. Whereas you would think an astrological vision would be totally out of reality’s ballpark, it turns out that his argument is very convincing, most of all becau Richard Psiqur is a man with a vision, which happens to include not only the vastness of the universe the cosmosbut also the depths of the individual creative mind the psyche.
