Reading it brings back many good memories of my reading Heinlein’s novels as a youth, and in this case I am sure that I read one of the very early paperback editions of the book within just a couple of years of it’s first publication.

This novel is one of the novels so interpreted. Just about anything goes on Venus, pldkayne gambling, as long as the money keeps rolling in. Podkayne of Mars is such a book. Heinlein nicely captured the total self-absorption of the teenage heinoein while still building a lovely, just plain nice heroine that I loved and wanted marz protect and mother. The plot was all right, but I was too frustrated with the main character to enjoy the book.
I wasn’t aware there was an alternate ending because this ending is what I remember from reading the book mumblety-mum years ago. Heinlein, for giving us a smart feministic mixed-race heroine who recognizes and regrets her need to submit.
