It was my genre of choice, historical fiction, with a pair of lovers who brought together by unfortunate circumstances fail to realize, and struggle against, their strong feelings for one another. A Tale of an unlikely couple trying desperately not to fall in love. And the story seemed rather unrealistic considering Annabelle’s values as compared with her actions or lack thereof.
This book was kindly provided to me by Bethany House Publishers for my honest review. This book does have some slightly slow parts in the middle and towards the end, and for me I would have liked more of an epilogue to know what happened further for these twobut overall the book was an enjoyable read.
She seemed to be entirely too good for Harrison. I didn’t care much for Harrison’s selfishness and the emphasis on society’s opinion throughout the book. I felt in many ways than one that The author tried to give justification to adultery like it was a special case, and I won’t sit by and read that tomfoolery.
You won’t be disappointed. All the tension, though, did make for a very satisfying conclusion once the secrets were out and the problem dealt with. Yet, newly divorced Annabelle Tyler and carefree playboy Harrison Graymoor, find themselves being forced to marry at gunpoint in order to protect Annabelle’s reputation. Hidden Affections (Hearts Along the River, #3) by Delia Parr
N Annabelle Tyler, scarred from a divorce not her choosing, finds herself being forced to marry a man because of the dubious circumstances that well meaning people find both she and a man by the name of Harrison Graymoor in. Annabelle Taylor,a divorcee who has to once again deal with a marriage that seemingly has no chance of going beyond the “shotgun” wedding certainly has an impressive spirit. Her only fault was perhaps being to naive about her first husband. Quite a good story to read on a rainy afternoon and I recommend it.

I would have enjoyed the characters digging a little deeper or expressing themselves a bit more so I could better know them, but ah well. That said the basis for their marriage was a bit hard to believe.
As both story and characters evolve the reader interest is maintained. The storyline basically made me feel like I was a viewer in the lives of two individuals, where one just so happens to be stronger in their faith then the other, and the other was struggling to get there, due to past experiences.
Delia Parr also did a very creditable job in showing how horrible divorce is.

This is a very touching and inspirational story.
I found the characters difficult to identify with and connect affextions, so I had trouble understanding their motivations or lack thereof. This novel also was heavily saturated with Christian references and bible verses.
I like the description of the mansion Harrison lives in and of the gowns and parties they go to. Our Heroine has been through so much but she is so sweet. Jun 28, Patricia rated it really liked it. Delia Parr writes her as such a giving and faithful living soul too, and that really comes through. She was a lovely minor character, who remained a true friend to both Annabelle and Harrison throughout. Even those who have such a strong connection with God find themselves facing doubt every now and again.
