I was a lucky Goodreads winner of this amazing book–the 4th edition of the “bible” for wine drinkers and collectors. Tracing the consumption and production from the ancient world to the present day, the Companion is a remarkable resource for gaining further appreciation for a beverage whose popularity has only increased with time. The new e-book and Kindle formats, as well as the traditional hardcover edition, now render this fount of vinous erudition even more accessible and eminently more portable.
An absolutely terrific wine encyclopaedia, containing more minute information about wine production, history, enjoyment, and custom than anyone could ever want to know. No wonder we needed a new edition. This would also make an awesome present for any part time or full on wine enthusiasts, and they probably wouldn’t need any other guides, ever. Jancis Robinson highlights some of the big changes in the world of wine production in the last decade DS the impact of climate change, new insights into soil and minerality, the advent of social media, the rise of Hong Kong as a world centre of wine trading and emerging problems such as premature oxidation. The answer is, yes, though perhaps indirectly.
