I had connected with the characters in “Kitchen” surprisingly well. I dunno if I love or hate Yoshimoto’s writing. Anything phenomenal, even boring pseudo-phenomenal, would be better than what yosbimoto whispers into the mind.
I didn’t always think the dialogue was believable, and the abruptness of the ending made the story seem unfinished; it felt as if it had been cut off mid-paragraph rather than being deliberately intended to be blunt.

All in all, I enjoyed reading this one, but it’s also not a book I’d really go around foisting on others. Thus, I was expecting a lot more from this. The ways in which the stories unfold are familiar to anyone who has read Japanese fiction, in that certain isolated moments are painted in a charming, magical way.
This small novella explores themes such as bereavement, motherhood, what really makes a family, love and loss.
Yoshkmoto Mikage helps Yuichi to cope with the loss and how her kitvhen for food keeps the friends sane forms the rest of the story in Kitchen.
As the three of them form an improvised family that soon weathers its own tragic losses, Yoshimoto spins a lovely, kitchn tale with the kitchen and the comforts of home at its heart.
El primer libro que leo de la autora. Pero los personajes y en especial los temas fueron suficientemente convincentes para hacerme vibrar por momentos. But how they attain that is way different. The problems are not necessarily a result of Yoshimoto’s writing or plot per se, more so the translation. Her tone indicates that she is apologetic about the disjointed style, yet I find that to be one of the more endearing aspects to the novel.

This is the same bridge on which she last saw Kitfhen. This is a brilliant and capturing book and I loved it. Something here is the kitchen including the food that you cook in there and someone is somebody like you who also lost a loved one and currently trying to move on with his life too.
They are short, quirky stories and create an atmosphere which is odd but lovely.
It’s not always so clear-cut. I definitely want to read more, but perhaps translated differently. Based on this evidence, I’d be more interested in reading further short stories by Yoshimoto, rather than another novel. Struggling to remember whom she loves and what she lost, she embarks on a unique emotional journey, accompanied at times by her dead sister’s lover, at others by her clairvoyant kid brother.
Ganan beautiful and touching idea that reminded me of that scene the in Oscar-nominated movie Ghost where Patrick Swayze, in blur, appeared to Demi Moore in the closing scene of that movie.
